Pennant suspended for holiday weekend

Bowls South’s Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division Pennant action will be suspended this weekend due to the long weekend holiday for the Hobart Regatta and Hobart Cup.

Tasmanian State Seniors Championships

There will still be plenty of bowls activity on the Eastern Shore with Bowls Tasmania’s State Seniors Pairs and Fours Championships for men and women who are 60 years of age and older, or who will be reaching the age of 60 by 8 October, which is the first day of Bowls Australia’s Seniors Sides Championships in Perth, Western Australia, this year. Pairs and Fours State Championship events for Bowlers with a Bowling Arm will be conducted, also. Over the four days of the State Championships more than 160 bowlers will take part in competition, highlighting the ability and bowls skills of senior bowlers throughout the State.

Competition commences on Sunday, 12 February, at 9:30am, with sectional play for Senior Men’s and Women’s Fours, with all play taking place at the Beltana Bowls Club, Lindisfarne, which is acting as the host club for the State Championships. The Men’s event will be played in 5 Sections, while the Women will compete in 4 Sections. The winners of each Section will progress to Post-Sectional play and Finals to be played at Beltana on Tuesday.

On Monday, Men’s Pairs Sectional play will occur at both Beltana and the Rosny Bowls Club, while the Women’s Sectional play will be played at both the Rosny and Howrah Bowls Clubs. Beltana will also host the Sectional play of the Bowling Arm Pairs event. Beltana will host the Post-Sectional play for both the Men’s and Women’s Pairs on Tuesday, as well as the Final of the Bowling Arm Fours event, and on the final day of competition, Wednesday, 15 February, of the Seniors State Championships will involve play in the Finals of Men’s and Women’s Fours, and the Final of the Bowling Fours.

Saturday Pennant

Bowls South’s Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division Pennant action will recommence with Round 15 on Saturday, 18 February, where main interest will be in the clash between 4th placed Cremorne at home to Glenorchy Rodman in 3rd, and the battle for survival between Claremont, at home to Sandy Bay, and the resurgent Dover, at home to Buckingham, itself also in danger of relegation.
