COVID-19 information

This page lists known COVID-19 incidents at Bowls Clubs affiliated with Bowls Tasmania South.ย  Please monitor for any symptoms and get tested if needed.

6 April – Claremont

A member of the Claremont bowls club who played in the Division 7 Grand Final at Rosny Park bowls club on Saturday the 2nd and attended the Claremont club’s function on Saturday evening has advised that they have tested positive to COVID yesterday (Tuesday 5 April).ย  Anyone at these venues is advised that if COVID symptoms appear do a RA test and follow the isolation and other COVID procedures.

4 April – Sandy Bay

One of our Division 2 players on Saturday (Grand Final at Beltana) has tested positive to Covid-19. He was skip on the furthest rink and played against Royal Hobart.

1 April – Royal Hobart

Royal Hobart have another confirmed COVID case yesterday (31 March). The player played in the same Division and matches as per our previous emails dated 28th March (below).

31 March – Cremorne

One of our Cremorne Wednesday Division 1 bowlers has reported that they have tested positive to Covid-19 today (31 March).ย  That person played in a team against Glenorchy Rodman Division 1 side on Wednesday 30 March.

28 March – Orford

Orford now has a case of COVID-19. The member played on Saturday at Orford and yesterday at Rosny Park.ย  They played against Franklin and Royal Hobart.

UPDATE: Royal Hobart has another confirmed COVID case today (30 March) and they played in the same Div and matches as per the case above.

28 March – Royal Hobart

One of our members at the Royal Hobart Bowling Club has tested positive to COVID today (28 March 2022). The member played in the Division 2 final against Sandy Bay on Saturday 26 March and in the Division 2 final against Orford on Sunday 27 March.

27 March – Cremorne

One of our (Cremorne) Division 6 bowlers has reported that they have tested positive to Covid-19 today (27 March). That person played in a team against Franklin Division 6 on Saturday 26th March. The spouse of that person who is now deemed to be a close contact, will not be playing in the Wednesday Division 1 Preliminary final.

25 March – Buckingham

Buckingham now has 7 confirmed cases of COVID, including one of the ladies that played at Sandy Bay yesterday (24 March).

3 March – Bowls Tasmania

Bowls Tasmania has been advised that a member of the Women’s North-West Seniors Statewide Challenge team which played at North Launceston yesterday has tested positive to COVID-19.ย ย Under the guidelines issued by the Tasmanian Government, no-one present yesterday is deemed to be a close contact.ย  However, everyone present at North Launceston yesterday should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms they should immediately isolate and get tested.

28 February – Claremont

Please be advised that the Claremont Bowls Clubs bar attendant has this morning (Monday) been diagnosed with COVID-19.ย  The bar attendant worked at the club on Saturday afternoon / evening of the 26 Feb 2022; she was fully masked at all times and had no symptoms of COVID-19 on the Saturday.

Members/players from other clubs and visitors are advised to monitor themselves and get tested if symptoms develop.ย The Claremont Bowls Club will monitor the situation going forward and will advise if there is any adverse developments.

24 February – Royal Hobart

Royal Hobart had our annual social day yesterday (23 Feb) with Baldwin Living / Vaucluse Gardens and one of their attendees tested positive to COVID.ย  Some of our pennant players from [across] our 3 divisions were in attendance.

23 February – Franklin

A Franklin player who played bowls on Saturday (19 Feb) against Huonville tested positive Monday (21 Feb).ย  He had no symptoms Saturday but became unwell on Sunday (20 Feb).

22 February – Bowls Tasmania (on Facebook)

Bowls Tasmania has been advised that a player in the Men’s Senior Championships which were played at North Launceston yesterday has tested positive to COVID-19.ย Under the guidelines issued by the Tasmanian Government, no-one else present at North Launceston yesterday is deemed to be a close contact.ย ย However, everyone present at North Launceston yesterday should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms they should immediately isolate and get tested.

12 February – Kingborough

A heads up that a Kingborough bowler, while playing singles in the BTS Open Singles today (12 Feb) at Kingborough, received advice that a close family member had returned a positive COVID test.ย  He finished his game, then left the field.ย  There is no word at this time on his COVID status.

12 February – Glenorchy City

A Glenorchy City player is a close contact of a confirmed COVID case. The Glenorchy City player is being tested and, in accordance with policy on close contacts, will need to isolate for a minimum of 7 days or until he tests negative. The Glenorchy City player played today (12 February) in the BTS Singles at Kingborough, before he became aware of his status as a close contact.

12 February – Rosny Park

We have just been notified that one of our Rosny Park Premier League players have tested positive to COVID. He played against Buckingham last Saturday 5 February.ย  Could all players present watch for symptoms and follow Tas. Health advice.

10 February – Dover

Please note one of our Division 4 players who played at Dover against Brighton yesterday (10 Feb) has returned a positive RAT and PCR result today.

10 February – Ouse

Ouse has a player that has tested positive at work on Tuesday. They played against Howrah on Saturday (5 February). They received negative result at work on Monday for Hydro. Attended work Tuesday and tested positive. The player is now isolating for until Wednesday 16 February as per government guidelines.

7 February – Glenorchy City

One of our members had a very faint positive reaction to a RAT test this morning (7 February). She is having a PCR test this afternoon and will let [GC] know immediately she gets her result. Meanwhile she is isolating.ย  She played at Claremont on Saturday in Division 4 against Brighton.ย  The results of the PCR test were negative.

3 February – Howrah

Howrah advise that one player has returned a positive RAT test today. He played at Dover on Sunday (30 Jan), and in Division 1 at Rosny Park on Wednesday (2 Feb).ย  The player’s wife played Ladies Division 2 at Brighton on Thursday (3 Feb). She was also at Dover on Sunday but has no symptoms at the moment.

30 January – Huonville

Huonville report they have had a bowler test positive today (3 Feb) to Covid-19. We believe they may have contracted it from Dover on Sunday but cannot be 100% sure.

30 January – Claremont

The Claremont bowls club advises that one of its members has contracted COVID-19.ย  The member concerned was at the club on Sunday 30 January but did not become ill until Tuesday 1 February.ย  He has not been to the club since 30 January and will isolate for 7 days.ย  We do not consider the member a close contact but we will monitor the situation going forward.

29 / 30 January – Dover

The Dover RSL bowls club has reported they have two members that have tested positive. They played on Saturday 29 January at Dover against Beltana, on Sunday 30 January at the Australia Day carnival at Dover.

27 / 29 January – Buckingham

This is to advise that one of our Buckingham lady members has today tested positive for Covid-19.ย  She played Div 1 at Claremont last Thursday and Div 1 at Kingborough on Saturday.ย  We do not consider her to be a close contact and she is currently self-isolating.

Additional (1/2/2022):ย  Another Buckingham lady has tested positive โ€“ she played in Saturday Div 3 at Kingborough.

29 January – Franklin (Division 2)

Franklin has two confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Club.ย  One member played yesterday (Saturday 29 January) in Division 2 against Royal Hobart.ย  The other Member was not playing.

23 January – Burnie (Men’s Open SWC)

Bowls Tasmania has advised that a member of the Men’s Bowls South Open Statewide Challenge team that played at Burnie on Sunday 23 January has tested positive to COVID-19.ย  The person played against Rosny Park in the Saturday pennant.ย  His roommate on Saturday night and those that he travelled up and back with from Hobart have been contacted, are isolating, and will be undertaking Rapid Antigen Tests today.

21 January – North Hobart (DL Reid)

All bowlers and spectators who were at the North Hobart Bowls and Community Centre on Friday 21 January should be aware that the bar person has been tested positive to COVID-19.

18 January – Burnie (Men’s Senior SWC)

Bowls Tasmania has advised that a member of the Men’s North-West 2 Seniors Statewide Challenge team that played at Burnie on 18 January has tested positive to COVID-19.
