Cyber Security Tips

The following is a copy of an email to clubs regarding Cyber Security:

Hi Club Secretaries

At our Board meeting last night, the Treasurer advised the Board that two clubs have paid their affiliation fee into an unknown bank account.Β  Early indications are that hackers are intercepting emails to these clubs and altering the bank details before allowing the email through to the club.Β  This breach did not occur at the BTS end as all invoices sent from our MYOB account have been verified as correct.

The BTS Board recommend to clubs that you consider the following:

  • Give serious consideration to obtaining Cyber Insurance.
  • Change passwords whenever a change in persons with access occurs.
  • Setup 2-factor authentication (2FA) for your critical transactions.
  • Ensure the 2FA code does not go to your email account!
  • Check with suppliers to verify new/unknown bank accounts before paying invoices.
  • Setup a guest account for your club’s WI-FI to guard against accidental viruses.
  • Do not allow non-club devices to connect to your primary WI-FI account.
  • If you’ve allowed access to your primary WI-FI, change the password!

The BTS Board hopes this will help you guard your club’s data and technical assets.

Regards
BTS Secretary
