Howrah bundle out Kingborough

30 March 2022 (Preliminary Finals)

Grand final matchups have been locked in for the Thursday Women’s Pennant as teams battled it out in the preliminary finals across divisions.

Kingborough were bundled out of the Division 1 finals after a determined Howrah beat them 10-2 by nine shots.  Howrah’s Sandra Hawksley had great support from her rink of Sally Ridgeway, Janet Rutherford and Shirley Calvert to defeat Sue Clark by 16 shots.  Rosie Geeves with Lyn Page playing well in the third position beat Kingborough’s Leonie Price 19-13.  Geeves was well supported by second Gaele Mizzen and lead Glenda Irvine who helped set up the heads.  Vicki Bannister tried to keep Kingborough in the game with a 29-16 win over Charon Foster.

Howrah will now face the in form Sandy Bay in the grand final.

In Division 2, Sandy Bay defeated Brighton by 23 shots.  Patricia Balcombe was a comfortable winner by 20 shots over Judy Williams, while Gill Pratt defeated Judith Holloway 22-12.  Brighton’s Lynette Triffitt beat Sally Knott 19-12.

Brighton redeemed themselves in Division 3, defeating North Hobart 9-3 by three shots.  Elisabeth Hoare was the sole winner for Brighton, defeating Helen Barker 25-12, while Brighton’s Sue Wilton and North Hobart’s Hendrika Flakemore played out a 16 all draw. North Hobart’s Kathleen Riley beat Glenda Rubock 19-9.

In Division 4, Claremont defeated Sorell 10-2 by 11 shots.  For Claremont, Brenda Pinnington defeated Lesley Cornish by six shots and Diana Sweeney beat Kathy Matthews 19-13.  Sorell’s June Kelly had a close one shot win over Yvonne Keane.
