Sandy Bay storm through to grand final

GLENORCHY Rodman advanced to the grand final of the Derwent Eye Specialists Premier League after a thrilling one shot victory over Kingborough in the second semi-final.

Playing on their home green, Rodman showcased the form they have demonstrated throughout the season, winning on two rinks. Isaac Maughan’s rink of Steven Clifford, Paul Cruise and Damien Sutton were relentless in their 15 shot win over Jarod Long, with great bowls played by all players.  Luke Turner had a tight 19-13 victory over Kingborough’s Ryan Guy.  Turner was well supported by third Anthony Clifford who played some crucial conversion shots, while second David Sutton and lead Jorja Maughan helped set up the head.  Jason Fowler tried his hardest to keep Kingborough in it by defeating the in form Jack Ellis by 14 shots, while Will Coad beat Tony Vince 26-20.

In the first semi-final, Sandy Bay comprehensively defeated Claremont 12-2 by 17 shots. In what was a great team effort all across the board, Sandy Bay was led by Justin Plummer’s rink of Stewart Cashion, Stephen Graf and David Anderson who defeated Shane Peck by 11 shots. Bryce Guy, with Michael Glancy leading well, beat Paul Hart 31-22, while Ryan McCoull defeated Michael Taylor by three shots. Nick Chilcott was Claremont’s only winner over Keghan Booth by six shots.

Kingborough got a second chance to make amends for their loss against Glenorchy Rodman, but a determined Sandy Bay were far too strong, winning 12-2 by 50 shots in the preliminary final.  Bryce Guy’s rink of Lucas Howell, Keith Hinkley and Michael Glancy headlined the Sandy Bay victory after defeating Jason Fowler by 24 shots.  Justin Plummer, with Stewart Cashion playing superbly in the three position, had a comfortable 35-18 win over Jarod Long.  Keghan Booth also had a solid 12 shot win over Ryan Guy.  Will Coad was Kingborough’s only winner over Ryan McCoull by three shots.

Sandy Bay will now play Kingborough in the grand final next Saturday.  In the other grand finals:

  • New Norfolk will play Kingborough in Division 1
  • Sandy Bay will play Royal Hobart in Division 2
  • Claremont will play Kingborough in Division 3
  • Cremorne will play Cygnet in Division 4
  • Claremont will play Oatlands in Division 5
  • Claremont will play Franklin in Division 6, and
  • Claremont 1 will play Claremont 2 in Division 7.
