Kingborough stumble

Ladies Division 1 report by Connor Munnings

3 March 2022 (Round 17)

Kingborough stumbled against Claremont as the Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant neared the end of its round robin.

Claremont fired on all rinks, comfortably defeating Kingborough by 39 shots. All players played well across the board for Claremont, with Joy Voss defeating Sue Clark 21-9, Maree Morgan beating Leonie Price by 16 shots and Jan McPherson getting the better of Vicki Bannister by 11 shots. The win gives Claremont a mathematical chance to make the top two, with Kingborough dropping from top spot on the ladder to third.

Sandy Bay took advantage of Kingborough’s loss and charged into first position with all rinks 45 shot win over Orford. With lead Jan Hobbs and third Jan Baxter playing well, Yvonne Buckley led the charge for Sandy Bay, only losing five ends to defeat Elaine Taylor by 31 shots. The ever reliable rink of Chris Dowl, Peri Buckley, Dianne Salt and Gail Price played consistent bowls to beat Carol Bannister 26-14. Jacqueline Phillips had the tightest game of the day, running out two shot winners over Jenny Martyn.

Howrah moved into second spot, currently three points behind Sandy Bay, with 10-2 10 shot win over Dover. Charon Foster’s rink of Denise Tanner, Janet Rutherford and Anne Mullavey played superbly in their 28-10 win over Debbie O’Donnell, while Rosie Geeves was too good for Kathleen Townsend by 10 shots. Sheryl Phillips was a shining light for Dover, defeating Sandra Hawksley by 18 shots. The loss means Dover can’t get off the bottom of the ladder and will be relegated next season.

Buckingham had a comprehensive all rinks 42 shot win over Sorell. Jeanette Lane defeated Faye Gardner 21-11, June Guy beat Patricia Taylor by 12 shots and Christine Thompson was in fine form to be victorious over Janet Cowen 28-8.

Glenorchy Rodman also won on all rinks against Rosny Park by 23 shots. Crystal Brooks was the big winner over Gaylene Ridgeway by 13 shots. Debbie Stearnes had a tight 21-16 win against Christine McGrath, while Roseanne McCann beat Ailsa Milburn by five shots.
