Check-in at clubs and wearing of masks

Advice provided by BTS to clubs on 12 Mar 2022

With Premier Peter Gutwein’s announcement yesterday (11 March) of the further easing of the mandate regarding the wearing of face masks it is appropriate for BTS to issue advice to clubs.

  • It is no longer obligatory to wear face masks in indoor areas of bowls clubs
  • It is no longer a requirement to wear face masks during play in indoor bowls centres

Notwithstanding this, BTS advises that while the mandatory wearing of face masks has been removed in most settings bowlers are encouraged to continue to wear face masks in settings where they believe that they may be at risk of COVID-19 infection.

FYI: This morning there has been an easing of the mandate in regard to the wearing of face masks. President Peter Kirby has been on the Tasmanian Health website to review this amendment and provided the following advice:

This relaxation does not extend to indoor bowls centres, nor to indoor areas of licensed premises, so for now nothing has changed.

We will keep you informed as additional relaxing of mandatory wearing of masks rules are announced.

BTS continues to monitor the advice from the State Government with regard to safe/approved COVID practices.Β  We also take our lead from Bowls Tasmania to ensure consistency within the sport of lawn bowls.

The latest State Government advice was provided 18 February – see Changes to check-in-TAS requirements.Β  In this advice, the following is included:

  • You must still check-in at licensed clubs:
From 6.00pm Friday 18 February, the Check in TAS app is still required to be used at all pubs, bars, clubs, night clubs, and hotels that are licensed premises, or permit premises, within the meaning of the Liquor Licensing Act 1990.
  • You must still wear masks in public indoor spaces:
While we transition to living with COVID-19, it remains important for everyone to continue to follow the rules and maintain COVID-safe behaviours when you are out and about, including wearing face masks in public indoor spaces, practicing physical distancing and hand hygiene.

It is up to each Club to keep abreast of changing COVID rules, but BTS will provide updates and guidance as much as possible.
