19 February 2022 (Round 15)

The top three teams in the Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division demonstrated their strength with comprehensive wins, while fourth spot remained up for grabs.

Kingborough currently sits on top of the ladder after defeating fourth placed Claremont 12-2 by 20 shots. Jason Fowler’s rink of Nathan Dinning, Graeme Walker and Anthony Rowe proved the difference for Kingborough with a comfortable 29-11 win over John Davis.  All other rink results were with four shots, with Jarod Long defeating Nick Chilcott 21-17 and Ryan Guy beating Paul Hart by two shots. For Claremont, Shane Peck defeated Will Coad 18-14.

Only one point behind Kingborough on the ladder, Glenorchy Rodman adjusted to a synthetic green to comfortably account for Cremorne 14-0 by 33 shots. Tony Vince, with support from Rodney Turner, Steven Clifford and Daniel Gahan, was the big winner against Ralph Tieman. After being two shots down on the fourth end, Vince piled on 12 shots over the next seven ends to end up winning by 21 shots. Isaac Maughan played a brilliant shot on the final end of his game against Brad Knight to extend his winning margin to six shots. Jack Ellis overcame an early deficit against Peter Marshall to defeat him 22-18. Rodman’s Luke Turner and Leigh Munnings had a tight battle, with Jorja Maughan and Geoff Jones leading well for both sides respectively. Turner established a six shot lead by the 19th end before Munnings fought back, but Turner was able to hold on to a two shot victory.

Sand Bay also had a comfortable all rinks win against Beltana by 40 shots, securing third position on the ladder. Second Phill Hobbs was outstanding for Ryan McCoull in his 22 shot win over Michael Coppleman. Justin Plummer also had a comfortable 25-14 victory over Nick Courto, while Keghan Booth defeated Shane Young by six shots. Beltana’s Steven Midson fought back after Bryce Guy got out to an early lead, but Guy was able to hold on by one shot.

Despite Claremont’s loss to Kingborough, they remain in fourth spot, but only eight points in front of Brighton.  Along with the battle for a top four position, there was also a battle at the bottom of the ladder.

Rosny Park jumped off the bottom with an upset 12-2 win over Brighton by 22 shots. In his first game of the year, Rosny’s David Genford, with great support from Jenny Suttie, Connor Munnings and Michael Rankin, shot out to a 14-0 lead against Tony Bartninkaitis before eventually winning 26-9. With Don Patmore leading superbly, Darren Monks defeated Brighton’s Matthew Breward by eight shots. Rosny’s Michael Eiszele beat John North 23-14.  Grant Wakefield picked up a three on the last end against Dale Maundrill to win by two shots and secure Brighton two points.

Buckingham finished the round in last position, with Dover defeating them 10-4 by three shots. For Dover, Jacob Sherrin-Wall defeated Craig Owen 25-12 and Brad Carver beat Todd Oakley by five shots. The Chamberlains kept Buckingham in the game, with Andrew Chamberlain defeating Jarrah Allan 28-15 and Grant Chamberlain beating Roger Dale by two shots.
