Sandy Bay topples ladder leaders

SANDY Bay toppled ladder leaders Howrah at the Howrah Indoor Centre in the Thursday Womenโ€™s Division 1 Pennant with a 16 shot 10-4 win. Jacqueline Phillips led the charge for Sandy Bay with accurate and consistent bowls from Helen Barnes, Adrienne Calnan and Anne When helping the rink to a 12 shot win over Sandra Hawksley. With Yvonne Buckley playing outstanding bowls, Sandy Bayโ€™s Robyn Leggett overcame an eight shot deficit after the seventh end to defeat Charon Foster by five shots. Chris Dowl and Rosie Geeves played out a close low scoring game with only 27 shots cored over the 21 ends. Geeves eventually came out as the one shot winner to secure Howrah two points.

Claremont solidified its spot in the top four with a comprehensive 11-1 win over Rosny Park by 18 shots. Jan McPherson, with great support from Rhonda Rider, Maree Careless and Wendy Gray, was too good for Gaylene Ridgeway, defeating her 25-14. Maree Morgan defeated Christine McGrath by seven shots, while Joy Voss and Ailsa Milburn played out a 17 all draw.

Kingborough hosted Buckingham on the outside green to earn 12 points by 14 shots. Leonie Price was the biggest winner of the day, jumping out to an early lead against Jeanette Lane and was never troubled in her 22-11 victory. Vicki Bannisterโ€™s rink of Sue Mann, Greta Murray and Sally Bowes had a thriller against June Guy to win by one shot. Sue Clark, with Kerrie Lane leading well and Lee Shead playing brilliantly in the two position, was able to hold onto a 23-21 win against Christine Thompson

Glenorchy Rodman defeated Sorell on all rinks by 33 shots. Crystal Brooks beat Faye Gardner 28-11, Debbie Stearnes defeated Patricia Taylor by nine shots and Roseanne McCann was victorious over Vicki Philp 20-13.

Orford were pushed by last place Dover, but emerged as 10-4 winners by 10 shots. Jenny Martyn defeated Kathleen Townsend 22-15 and Carol Bannister beat Debbie Oโ€™Donnell by four shots. Sheryl Phillips secured two points for Dover with a one shot win over Elaine Taylor.
