Sandy Bay down old foes

Ladies Division 1 report by Connor Munnings

3 February 2022 (Round 13)

In the battle between old foes in Sandy Bay and Rosny Park, it was Sandy Bay who scored an all rinks win by 20 shots. Steady bowling by Chris Dowl’s rink of Peri Buckley, Dianne Salt and Gail Price saw them defeat Gaylene Ridgeway eight shots. Robyn Leggett had a hard fought match against Ailsa Milburn with scores level on the 16th end. However, a five from Leggett on the next end saw them win 24-17. Jacqueline Phillips was ably supported by Helen Barnes, Adrienne Calnan and Anne Whenn, but a surge by the Rosny rink led by Christine McGrath resulted in level scores on the 19th end.  Phillips came home strongly, scoring nine shots in the last three ends and claiming the rink win by five shots.

Despite early showers, Claremont was able to defeat Dover at Dover by 13 shots and gain 10 points. Maree Morgan, with Gail Hay leading superbly, had a close game with Dover’s Kathleen Townsend, but was able to pull away to win by 10 shots. Claremont’s Joy Voss was in scintillating form to beat Debbie O’Donnell 22-12. Sheryl Phillips secured two points for Dover with a 26-19 win over Jan McPherson.

After having a deficit at the lunch break, Howrah pulled away from Glenorchy Rodman to win on all rinks by 20 shots. Rosie Geeve’s rink of Lyn Page, Gaele Mizzen and Glenda Irvine played brilliantly to defeat Debbie Stearnes 28-19. Charon Foster, with second Janet Rutherford playing some telling bowls, beat Roseanne McCann by seven shots. Sandra Hawksley’s rink showed plenty of fight to overcome Crystal Brooks 20-16.

Orford put a dent in Buckingham’s finals hopes with a thrilling 8-4 win by four shots. Carol Bannister led the way for Orford with a nine shot win over June Guy. For Buckingham, Jeanette Lane defeated Elaine Taylor 16-12 and Christine Thompson beat Jenny Martyn by one shot.

Sorell verse Kingborough was a washout with teams splitting the points.
