Top four takes shape

Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division report by Connor Munnings

CLAREMONT jumped into fourth position with a comprehensive all win rinks over Rosny Park as the top four of the Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division started to take shape. Michael Taylor, with support from Adam Taylor, Max Barry and Kevin Raby, dominated the second half of the game against Dale Maundrill to win 23-12. Despite being behind most of the game, Paul Hart defeated Michael Eiszele 22-18. With third Paul Grover bowling superbly, Shane Peck survived a late fight back from Darren Monks to win by five shots. In a game that went down to the wire, Claremont’s Nicholas Chilcott and Rosny’s Peter Bannister played some brilliant bowls for the lead to change multiple times.  However, it was Chilcott, with support from his rink of Joy Voss, John Davis and Phillip Brown, that was victorious by one shot.

Sandy Bay put a dent in Brighton’s finals hopes with a 12-2 26 shot victory.  Bryce Guy’s rink of Lucas Howell, Peri Buckley and Michael Glancy were the big winners, defeating Grant Wakefield 34-9. Justin Plummer beat Matthew Breward by five shots and Keghan Booth had a close one shot win over Tony Bartninkaitis. John North defeated Ryan McCoull 21-16 to secure Brighton two points.

Kingborough was pushed by Cremorne in its 10-4 win by six shots. Ryan Guy, with Brent Forsyth playing brilliant in the third position, led the way for Kingborough with an 11 shot win over Leigh Munnings. The game between Kingborough’s Jason Fowler and Brad Knight went to the last end with the scores locked at 17 all.  Knight held two shots before Fowler played a great drive to change the head and win by two shots. Cremorne’s Ralph Tieman defeated Will Coad 20-16, while Peter Marshall survived a comeback from Jarod Long to win by three shots.

Glenorchy Rodman also survived a scare against bottom placed Buckingham to win 10-4 by four shots. In the absence of Isaac Maughan, Tony Vince stepped into the skip’s role to defeat Buckingham’s Todd Oakley 21-13. Rodman’s Jack Ellis had a hard fought battle against Grant Chamberlain to win by one shot.  For Buckingham, Andrew Chamberlain beat Luke Turner 23-19 and Craig Owen defeated Paul Cruise by one shot.

Beltana defeated Dover 10-4 by 13 shots. Gary Richardson beat Josh Lording 24-17 and Nick Courto defeated Chris Norris 31-12. Dover secured four points with Roger Dale defeating Michael Coppleman by eight shots and Jacob Sherrin-Wall beating Shane Young by five shots.
