Sandy Bay boosted by inclusions

Ladies Division 1 report by Connor Munnings

27 January 2022 (Round 12)

With the inclusions of Peri and Yvonne Buckley for the first time this season, Sandy Bay was too strong for Glenorchy Rodman in the Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant. On a slow green at Rodman, it was the leads and seconds who set up an all rinks 21 shot win for Sandy Bay. Chris Dowl, with lead Yvonne Buckley bowling superbly in her return game, defeated Roseanne McCann 25-14. Jacqueline Phillips was well set up by lead Cynthia Shave and second Adrienne Calnan to beat Debbie Stearnes by seven shots. The closest game of the day was between Robyn Leggett and Crystal Brooks, but once again it was the lead and second in Jan Hobbs and Jann Baxter who provided great support to Leggett to win by three shots. Sandy Bay’s Helen Barnes was acknowledged at the start of the game for having played 300 games for Sandy Bay.

Kingborough hosted top team Howrah, winning on two rinks by eight shots. Kingborough’s Vicki Bannister and her rink of Susan Mann, Greta Murray and Laura Best were the big winners on the day, defeating Sandra Hawksley 23-11. Leonie Price, with great support from Nadine Seabourne, Karlene Beadle and Judith Traill, accounted for Rosie Geeves by nine shots. Charon Foster secured two points for Howrah by beating Sue Clark 26-13.

The game between Claremont and Buckingham went down to the wire, with Claremont escaping with a 9-3 win by two shots. With Buckingham’s June Guy defeating Maree Morgan by seven shots and Jan McPherson and Christine Thompson playing out a 16-16 draw, it was down to Claremont’s Joy Voss to make up a one-shot deficit on the final end. Voss was able to score a three to defeat Janette Lane 19-10 and secure Claremont the overall win.

Rosny Park defeated last placed Dover 11-1 by six shots. Rosny’s Christine McGrath, with great support from third Judith Sherrin and lead Patricia Blood, beat Kathleen Townsend by five shots, while Ailsa Milburn had a close one-shot win over Debbie O’Donnell. Gaylene Ridgeway and Sheryl Phillips played out a 14-14 draw.

Orford had a comfortable 11-1 25 shot win over Sorell. Elaine Taylor defeated Patricia Taylor by 15 shots and Carol Bannister beat Vicki Philp 20-10. Jenny Martyn and Faye Gardner had a 21-21 draw.
