Brighton keeps finals hopes alive

BRIGHTON kept its finals hopes alive with a thrilling 14-0 16 shot win over fourth placed Cremorne. John North, with Riley Davey leading brilliantly, was able to overcome an early deficit to defeat Leigh Munnings by one shot. North played a great conversion shot with his last bowl of the game to secure the win. Matt Breward repeatedly changed the head in his 17-16 win over Brad Knight.  With great support from second Tony Smith, Tony Bartninkaitis was too strong for Ralph Tieman in his 25-19 win. Grant Wakefield’s rink of Michael Daniels, David Cure and Andrew Maguire were in good form to defeat Peter Marshall by eight shots.

Sandy Bay halted Claremont’s charge for a top four position, defeating them 12-2 by 33 shots. Sandy Bay’s Keghan Booth, with support from Lucas Howell, Scott Booth and David Anderson, had a comfortable 27-11 win over Nicholas Chilcott. Justin Plummer defeated Shane Peck by 14 shots and Ryan McCoull beat Paul Hart 27-15.  Michael Taylor was Claremont’s only winner with a nine shot victory over Darren Beattie.

Kingborough continued its undefeated season with a 10-4 38 shot win over Dover.  Ryan Guy and his rink of Brent Forsyth, Jack Butler and Jeff Parsons were the big winners for Kingborough, defeating Alan Dow 38-11.  Jarod Long was also in fine form for Kingborough with a 21 shot win over Chris Norris.  Will Coad experienced a rare loss to Dover’s Josh Lording, with Lording playing some great bowls to win 31-14.  Jacob Sherrin-Wall also got two points for Dover by defeating Jason Fowler by three shots.

Beltana prevailed over Buckingham 12-2 by 32 shots in a fight to stay off the bottom of the ladder.  Shane Young’s rink of Alex McCoull, Wayne Cobbing and John Mastrippolito were too good for Buckingham’s Paul Eaton, defeating them 31-13.  Beltana’s Nicholas Courto defeated Todd Oakley by 12 shots while Michael Coppleman beat Craig Owen 24-15.  Buckingham’s Grant Chamberlain defeated Steven Midson 25-18.

In difficult conditions, Glenorchy Rodman defeated Rosny Park 12-2 by 23 shots.  Luke Turner, with David Sutton playing well in the second position, set the win up for Rodman with a 27-12 win over Peter Bannister.  Paul Cruise stormed out to an early 10-0 lead against Darren Monks to win 27-17. Isaac Maughan and Rosny’s Michael Eiszele played the closest game of the day, with Maughan winning by three shots. Dale Maundrill defeated Jack Ellis by five shots to secure Rosny two points.
