Brighton makes its move

Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division report by Connor Munnings

Brighton made its climb up the Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division ladder with a 14-0 35 shot win over Buckingham. Jumping from ninth to sixth, Brighton played brilliantly on all rinks.  With Jayden Hunter leading superbly, Tony Bartninkaitis defeated Grant Chamberlain 24-14.  After 10 ends, Bartninkaitis was six shots down, but over the next 11 ends, he scored 20 shots to Chamberlain’s three. John North, with second Don Holland in great form, led all day to beat Alvin Cooke by 11 shots. Grant Wakefield recovered from a slow start to win 21-13 against Todd Oakley, while Matt Breward won a close contest with Andrew Chamberlain by five shots.

Kingborough won the top of the table clash against Glenorchy Rodman 10-4 by 16 shots.  Ryan Guy and his rink of Brent Forsyth, Jack Butler and Jeff Parsons were the big winners for Kingborough with a 24 shot win over Paul Cruise.  Will Coad continued his undefeated season defeating Luke Turner 28-23.  Isaac Maughan kept Rodman in the game with 12 shot win over Jarod Long, while Jack Ellis had a tight tussle with Jason Fowler to win 19-18.

Sandy Bay had a comprehensive win over Cremorne on all rinks by 40 shots to jump into third position on the ladder. Darren Beattie defeated Peter Marshall 24-12, Kegahn Booth beat Pat Hoffman by 12 shots and Ryan McCoull prevailed over Ralph Tieman 25-13.  The game between Sandy Bay’s Justin Plummer and Brad Knight saw the lead change multiple times, but it was Plummer’s rink who ran out as four shot winners.

Claremont held out against a valiant Dover to win 11-3 by 12 shots. Paul Hart, with great support from Craig Coad, John McDonald and David Howard, put Claremont in a strong position by defeating Roger Dale 26-12. Nick Chilcott held off Josh Lording to win by 2 shots, while Chris Norris and Shane Peck played out a 20-20 draw. Jacob Sherrin-Wall secured two points for Dover with a four shot win over Michael Taylor.

Beltana defeated Rosny Park 12-2 by 16 shots. Nick Courto beat Michael Eiszele 26-11, Shane Young beat Peter Bannister by six shots and Michael Coppleman won over Dale Maundrill by four shots. Rosny’s Darren Monks defeated Steve Midson 25-16.
