Sorell win a close one!

16 December 2021 (Round 9)

In the closest game of the Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant, Sorell travelled to Dover to win 9-3 by five shots. Faye Gardner, with support from Vicky Wakefield, Beth Connell and Gwen Scott, scored eight shots on the last two ends to defeat Dover’s Debbie O’Donnell 31-7. Sheryl Phillips kept Dover in the game with a 19 shot win over Vicki Philp, but a 15-15 draw between Sorell’s Patricia Taylor and Dover’s Kathleen Townsend secure the overall win for Sorell.

Rosny Park hosted ladder leaders Howrah, but were no match for the visitors, losing on all rinks by 31 shots. With Anne Mullavey leading superbly, Howrah’s Charon Foster was in control all day against Gaylene Ridgeway and ran out to a 33-12 win. Sandra Hawksley defeated Christine McGrath by seven shots with third Sally Ridgeway playing well. Rosie Geeves, with great support from second Gael Mizzen, came from behind to win over Ailsa Milburn 22-19.

Claremont defeated Glenorchy Rodman 10-2 by 18 shots.  Joy Voss continued her great year to overcome an early 5-1 deficit and win 28-11 against Rodman’s Debbie Stearnes.  With second Robyn Ratcliffe and Gail Hay setting the head up well, Claremont’s Maree Morgan was able to play some great conversion shots to defeat Lynne Flack by seven shots. Rodman’s Crystal Brooks scored two late fours to defeat Jan McPherson 22-16.

Despite losing to Buckingham 10-2 by 12 shots, Sandy Bay retained fourth place on the ladder. With scores level at the end of the 19th end, Buckingham’s Jeanette Lane was able to pick up two fives to defeat Robyn Leggett by 10 shots.  Christine Thompson was Buckingham’s other winner, beating Chris Dowl 20-17.  New skip Jacqueline Phillips secured two points for Sandy Bay by defeating June Guy by one shot.

Orford caused the upset of the round by defeating second placed Kingborough 10-2 by 12 shots.  Elaine Taylor’s rink of Audrey Baker, Debbie Colls and Barbara Walker were the big winners for Orford in defeating Sue Clark 24-13.  Jenny Martyn also defeated Leonie Price by three shots.  Vicki Bannister beat Carol Bannister by two shots to secure two points for Kingborough.
