Ladies Division 1 report by Connor Munnings

9 December 2021 (Round 8)

Sandy Bay and Orford played a heart-stopping game in round eight of the Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant. With Jann Baxter playing well in the second position, Robyn Leggett was the sole winner for Sandy Bay with a 11 shot win over Elaine Taylor. Sandy Bay’s Anne Whenn was ahead of Jenny Martyn 14-7 at the lunch break, but Martyn and her rink rallied to make a comeback and win 26-18. Orford’s Carol Bannister and Chris Dowl went into the last end tied, but some great bowls from Bannister saw her win by two shots. However, it was not enough, as Sandy Bay came away as 8-4 overall victors by one shot.

Rosny Park returned to the winner’s circle with a comprehensive all rink win over Glenorchy Rodman by 26 shots. Christine McGrath, with support from Marlene Wakefield, Lyn Kosi and Patricia Blood, set up the win for Rosny with a nine shot win over Jorja Maughan. Ailsa Milburn defeated Debbie Stearnes 23-15 and Gaylene Ridgeway beat Crystal Brooks 22-13.

Kingborough hosted Claremont at the Kingborough Indoor Centre to earn 10 points in a four shot win. Sue Clark, with Kerrie Lane leading well, was the big winner for Kingborough in defeating Jan McPherson 23-16. Leonie Price’s rink of Karlene Beadle, Nadine Seabourne and Judy Traill had a hard-fought battle against Claremont’s Maree Morgan to win by one shot. Claremont’s Joy Voss defeated Vicki Bannister 14-18 to secure Claremont two points.

Howrah continued its winning form with a strong 12-0 win over Dover by 29 shots. Rosie Geeves, with third Lyn Page and lead Shirley Calvert bowling superbly, was too good for Kathleen Townsend, winning 30-14. With Janet Rutherford playing well in the second position, Sandra Hawksley led all day to defeat Debbie O’Donnell 28-19. Charon Foster battled hard to defeat Sheryl Phillips by four shots.

Buckingham defeated Sorell 10-2 by 10 shots. Christine Thompson defeated Janet Cowen 27-14 and June Guy beat Patricia Taylor by one shot. Vicki Philp secured Sorell two points with a four shot win over Jeanette Lane.
