Rosny gets season back on track

Rosny Park got its season back on track in the Bowls Tasmania South Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant after travelling to Orford to achieve its first win. Rosny was led by Gaylene Ridgeway’s rink in its 11-1 win by 22 shots over Orford. With great support from Dianne Nieuwhof, Mimma D’Amico and Kaye Cole, Ridgeway led all day to defeat Pauline Sage 26-11. Chris McGrath, with first year Division 1 player Patricia Blood playing superbly in the lead position, defeated Carol Bannister by seven shots.  Rosny’s Ailsa Milburn got off to a slow start against Jenny Martyn, but with third Di Petrie playing well, was able to fight back and secure a draw on the final end.

Sandy Bay and Claremont played a heated contest with only two shots separating the sides in a nail-biting finish. Sandy Bay’s Chris Dowl played a superb skip’s game to come from behind and score 12 shots in the last three ends to defat Jan McPherson by six shots. Robyn Leggett, with great support from third Jac Phillips and second Jann Baxter, led against Claremont’s Maree Morgan all day to win 22-17. Joy Voss secured Claremont two points with a 21-8 win over Anne Whenn.

Howrah won on all three rinks over Sorell by 26 shots at the Howrah Indoor Centre to consolidate top spot. Sandra Hawksley was too good for Vicki Philp, winning by 14 shots. Filling in as skip for the week, Denise Tanner had a close tussle with Faye Gardner to win 22-19. Rosie Geeves comfortably defeated Patricia Taylor by nine shots.

Kingborough hosted Dover at its Indoor Centre to comfortably win on all rinks by 44 shots. Vicki Bannister’s rink of Sue Mann, Greta Murray and Laura Best were the big winners against Deb O’Donnell, with all players contributing to win 33-14. Sue Clark, with great support from second Lee Shead, was able to get the better of Dover’s Kathleen Townsend by 17 shots. Leonie Price and Sheryl Phillips had a close game until the 14th end, when Price was able to play some big conversion shots to pull away and win 22-14.

Buckingham defeated Glenorchy Rodman 12-0 by eight shots. Jeanette Lane won 22-18 over Debbie Stearnes, June Guy beat Roseanne McCann by two shots and Christine Thompson defeated Crystal Brooks 18-16.
