Kingborough rise to the top in grand final rematch

KINGBOROUGH were victorious in the grand final rematch against Sandy Bay in the Derwent Eye Specialists Premier Division.  Kingborough were able to get out to an early lead thanks to the rink of Jarod Long, Craig Griggs, Darren Reeve and Jason Commane, who comfortably defeated Ryan McCoull 20-11.  Will Coad continued his fine start to the season with a five shot victory over Sandy Bay’s Darren Beattie that put him on top of the skip’s player ladder. Jason Fowler defeated Keghan Booth by eight shots. Bryce Guy was able to secure two points for Sandy Bay by defeating brother Ryan Guy by one shot in a closely fought match.  The 12-2 21 shot win puts Kingborough on top of the ladder, eight points ahead of second placed Glenorchy Rodman.

Glenorchy Rodman had it tougher, winning by one shot in a thrilling battle against Dover (15-14). Isaac Maughan’s rink of Tony Vince, Damien Sutton and Brett Ellis were the heroes for Rodman, defeating Jarrah Allan by 25 shots. With Mitchell Long playing his first game for the seasons in the second position, Rodman’s Paul Cruise had a one shot win over Brad Carver. For Dover, Jacob Sherrin-Wall defeated Luke Turner 25-15 and Roger Dale had a 15 shot win over Steven Clifford.

Cremorne defeated Beltana on all rinks by 23 shots to jump into third position on the ladder.  Ralph Tieman was the big winner against Brendan Breen, with Geoff Jones and Brendon Dance forming a strong front half combination to run out 14 shot victors. With brilliant leading from David Oates, Brad Knight raced out to a 20-8 lead against Steve Midson by the ninth end. Midson fought back, but Knight’s rink was able to steady over the final ends to win 27-21.  Leigh Munnings and Nick Courto had a tight battle all day, with Cremorne lead Don McVilly drawing the shot on the final end to help Munnings to a one shot win.  Peter Marshall defeated Shane Young by two shots.

Rosny Park split rinks with Buckingham in wet conditions to win 10-4 by 28 shots. Grant McCormack played well in the second position to help Peter Bannister defeat Buckingham’s Grant Chamberlain 34-10.  Graham Rowbottom played some great bowls to help him to a 15 shot win over Alvin Cooke.  Andrew Chamberlain defeated Darren Monks 21-16 and Todd Oakley beat John McKibben by six shots to secure Buckingham four points.

Claremont defeated Brighton 12-2 by 19 shots.  Paul Hart defeated Matthew Breward 22-19, Michael Taylor beat Greg Fehlberg by three shots and Shane Peck overcame Grant Wakefield 25-11. Brighton’s John North defeated Nick Chilcott by one shot.
