Kingborough make their move

KINGBOROUGH jumped into the top four of the of the Bowls Tasmania South Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant with a comprehensive 22 shot all rinks win over Sorell. Playing at the Kingborough Indoor Centre, the home team was boosted by Vicki Bannister’s rink of Sue Mann, Greta Murray and Pauline Connell who combined well to defeat Trish Taylor 27-13. Sorell’s Vicki Philp led against Sue Clark by four shots at the lunch break, but with lead Kerrie Lane playing some great draw bowls, Clark was able to draw ahead to win by seven shots. The final rink saw Leonie Price play some beautiful conversion shots to help her rink to a 18-13 win over Faye Gardner.

Howrah continued its good form, defeating Glenorchy Rodman 10-2 by 13 shots at Rodman. Charon Foster’s rink of Denise Tanner, Janet Rutherford and Anne Mullavey showed why they are one of the top rinks this season by defeating Roseanne McCann 27-18, while Sandra Hawksley had a come from behind win over Debbie Stearnes by six shots. Crystal Brooks secured two points for Glenorchy Rodman’s by defeating Rosie Geeves 22-17.

Orford got its first win of the season after a close tussle against Buckingham at Orford. Leading all day, Orford’s Jenny Martyn had a two shot win over June Guy. The lead changed several times in the game between Carol Bannister and Christine Thompson, but it was Orford’s Bannister that finished on top by two shots. Buckingham’s Jeanette Lane led early against Pauline Sage, but Sage managed to win seven of the last nine ends to win by three shots. Overall, Orford claimed 12 points in its seven shot victory.

Sandy Bay had the better of Rosny Park, winning on two rinks to defeat the home side by 29 shots.  Robyn Leggett’s rink of Jacqueline Phillips, Jann Baxter and Jan Hobbs raced away to a significant lead against Rosny’s Gaylene Ridgeway, and despite Ridgeway making a small comeback to win the last three ends, Leggett won 35-9. Chris Dowl defeated Judith Sherrin 24-14.  Rosny’s Ailsa Milburn defeated Anne Whenn by seven shots to secure Rosny two points.

Claremont comfortably defeated Dover 11-1 by 38 shots.  Joy Voss defeated Sheryl Phillips 19-14 and Maree Morgan beat Kathleen Townsend 44-11.  Dover’s Deb O’Donnell had a 20-20 draw with Jan McPherson.
