Howrah consolidate top spot

HOWRAH consolidated its position on top of the ladder in the Thursday Women’s Division 1 Pennant by defeating Kingborough 9-3 at the Howrah Indoor Centre. Howrah were led by Charon Foster’s rink of Denise Tanner, Janet Rutherford and Anne Mullavey who were too good for Vicki Bannister, winning by 28 shots. Rosie Geeves had a tight tussle against Kingborough’s Sue Clark to end with a 17-17 draw. Leonie Price got Kingborough two points, defeating Sandra Hawksley by six shots.

In an up and down game, Claremont defeated Buckingham 12-2 by four shots. With great leading from Wendy Gray, Jan McPherson defeated Buckingham’s June Guy 24-11. However, Buckingham were able to balance the scores with Christine Thompson having a superb day to defeat Maree Morgan by 13 shots. Joy Voss’ rink of Dianne Peck, Trudy Davis and Pam Ritchie were the deciding rink for Claremont. One shot up going into the last end, Voss was able to increase her lead against Janette Lane to win 21-17.

Dover hosted Rosny Park in a nail biter to win 8-4 by two shots. All rinks were within 10 shots, with the Dover rink of Dawn Garland, Debbie O’Donnell, Jenny Gane and Kim Power recording the biggest win of day by defeating Judith Sherrin by seven shots. Rosny were the winners on the other two rinks, with Gaylene Ridgeway defeating Kathleen Townsend 19-17 and Ailsa Milburn beating Sheryl Phillips by three shots, but it was not enough to give Rosny the overall win.

In her 400th Thursday Pennant game for Sandy Bay, Chris Dowl was unable to get her team the win, with Glenorchy Rodman defeating Sandy Bay 10-2 by 18 shots. Dowl lost to Crystal Brooks 23-12, while Anne Whenn only won six ends to lose to Rodman’s Debbie Stearnes by 11 shots. Robyn Leggett secured two points for Sandy Bay by defeating Roseanne McCann 20-16. For her loyalty to the club, Dowl was presented with a framed certificate.

Sorell hosted Orford to defeat them 10-2 by five shots. For Sorell, Trish Taylor had a hard fought nine shot win over Carol Bannister and Vicki Philp defeated Jenny Martyn 23-18. Orford’s Pauline Sage defeated Faye Gardner 21-12.
