Saturday Premier Division report by Connor Munnings

30 October 2021 (Round 3, 2021-22)

CREMORNE and Brighton played a tight tussle in the third round of the Saturday Premier Division, with the result in doubt until the last couple of ends.

On the Cremorne synthetic surface, Brad Knight led the home team to 12-2 six shot overall win.  With the game in the balance at the halfway mark, Knight, with David Oates leading brilliantly, ran away to a 15 shot win over Matthew Breward.  Cremorne’s Leigh Munnings got an early lead against Grant Wakefield through the work of lead Don McVilly and second Paul Hoddy.  Wakefield was able to fight back to get a one shot lead going into the final end, but some brilliant draw shots from Pat Hoffman and Munnings saw Munnings win by one shot.  With scores tied on the final end, Peter Marshall played a brilliant conversion shot against Brighton’s Greg Fehlberg to score a four and win the game.  Tony Bartninkaitis secured two points for Brighton with a 14 shot win over Ralph Tieman.

Buckingham hosted Beltana on its synthetic fortress to have a decisive three rink 45 shot win.  Some great conversion shots by Buckingham’s Grant Chamberlain, helped his rink of Robert Stringer, George Kovacs and Phillip Wheatley to a comfortable 34-13 win over Steven Midson.  Alvin Cooke, with support from third Stuart Rees, was able to overcome Beltana’s Shane Young by 13 shots.  Buckingham’s Todd Oakley was in scintillating form to defeat Michael Coppleman by 13 shots.  Nicholas Courto was Beltana’s only winner, downing Andrew Chamberlain 22-20.
