BTS Serious Injury and Illness Policy

Printable version: Serious Injury and Illness Policy (PDF)

Preamble

The BTS Board has developed this policy in response to concerns about the actions to be taken in the event of the serious injury or death of a player either while participating in a BTS pennant match or immediately before the commencement of play.   The BTS Board hopes that the following guidelines provide surety to all.

Policy

In the event of the death of a player on the green, all play on the green must be abandoned immediately.

In the event of a serious injury or illness to a player on the green, all play on the green must be postponed immediately until the player has been removed from the green.

A minimum 20 minute compulsory break shall be taken if requested by either Side Captain.

If, owing to a serious injury or illness, play has been delayed and the game is unlikely to be finished within two hours of the normal finish of play, the game shall be abandoned.

If the majority of players from the team whose player has been seriously injured or who has become seriously unwell are too shaken up or distraught to continue with the game, it shall be abandoned.

Where a decision is made to abandon the game, all points shall be shared except if a game is abandoned after sufficient ends have been played to constitute a match, when the game will be deemed to be complete with the match result determined by the scores as at the abandonment.

The same policy shall apply in the event of a serious injury or illness to a player travelling to pennant or waiting at a club for pennant to commence.
