BowlsLink and COVID-19 certificates

Question posed by Cremorne

Can you please write to Bowls South and ask what has been done with the information on every ones previous immunisation status regarding COVID. These records should now be removed for security reasons.

Response provided by Bowls Australia (thru Bowls Tasmania)

Dear Paul

I raised this at a Bowls Australia meeting today.

It is up to individual clubs or regions to revoke the COVID-19 certification if they wish to.Β Β  It is not possible for Bowls Australia to remove the certification once people have been allocated within a certification.Β Β  It is not possible to delete the certification but rather revoke it which means that the history of same will remain within the BowlsLink database.

Kind regards

Advice issued to clubs on 2 December 2022

TO: Club BowlsLink Administrators

Cremorne posed the question (below) regarding the COVID-19 certifications currently stored in BowlsLink for the majority of bowlers in the South.Β  The question was put to Bowls Tasmania, who asked Bowls Australia for advice. Β The advice from Bowls Australia, and passed to BTS by Bowls Tasmania, is shown above.

Based on this advice, the BTS Board has resolved to leave this matter with clubs to administer, noting the following:

  • Certificates cannot be revoked en masse – certificates must be revoked one at a time.
  • Once a certificate is revoked, it cannot be β€œre-activated”.
  • If the information is required in the future, and a member’s certificate has been revoked, a new certificate will have to be created.
  • Any information belonging to the revoked certificate will remain in the BowlsLink databse per Bowls Australia advice above.
  • A club must revoke the certificate for any individual who wishes this to occur.

The BTS Board recommends advising your members of the above.Β  In the interests of transparency this information will be published to the BTS website.
