Myths and Misconceptions

The Club President must mark the club singles finals.

Simply not true, a blast from the past.   Your club singles finals are the premier event at your club, your best club marker should mark the game.   An inexperienced or poor marker can ruin a game.   If your club President is not your best marker involve then in the game in another role, Scoreboard?, umpire?, commentator?   A club may have a protocol that club President’s mark singles finals.

Umpiring question

Can a player change their bowls during a game?Β Β  No. But they may change their set because:

  • A bowl has been damaged (Law 29.3.1.1) (Law 31), or
  • The game has been moved between a vegetation surface and a synthetic or indoor surface (Law 29.3.1.2), or
  • The game has been stopped and is continued on another day; a player can use a different set of bowls to the set that they used during the game that was stopped (Law 29.3.2).
